“How did you get started in billing?”

My first finance job was with one of the big four…cleaning up messes. In corporate recovery the biggest problem is often cash management. Somewhere along the line people lose sight of a simple rule: Growing sales also means growing cash.

“But cash isn’t everything, is it?”

No. Companies need to invest to grow. The problems start when the return is less than it should be – its too small or comes too late. US online companies cash return on foreign traffic is too little…and has been for a long time.

I was in charge of marketing for a company that offered a single billing solution. Clients told me they expected a higher return. That’s the reason for local billing solutions.

“Ok, so why haven’t they all done it already?”

There are two simple reasons for why they may not have done it before.

Growth. The domestic market was growing until about 2005. There are really no new surfers in North America today.
You don’t get CDs from AOL in the mail anymore—so there is something good about maturity.

And broadband. People with broadband shop more and dial up is on the way out around the world. So foreign visitors have become better customers. And our clients are happier with their return on investment.
